My Poppa He was my go to if I needed cheered up, if I had good news or I just wanted company. I spent so much time with him, especially on my maternity leave which I’m so grateful to have had. Most Christmases and birthdays were shared together, but My favourite was the grand national. I loved seeing him get so excited and despite having placed his bets in the bookies, he always got us to do extra online. We looked forward to this day all year. Everyone knows the feeling of home and love as soon as you step foot into his home. The smell of his amazing food lingering, the radio or an old film on, the heating on full blast and a cup of brandy coffee regardless of the time of day. His silly sayings and sense of humour would make anyone laugh and although he was so kind, you had to watch what he said in public. He was always positive, caring, extremely generous and grateful. He brought so much peace and joy to everyone’s life. He took everyday as it came and lived life to the fullest everyday. Friday 12th April was the hardest day of all of our lives. Our worlds were turned upside down and will never be the same again. He really wanted to make it to 100 years old, and although he didn’t, he definitely lived a thousand lives. I find comfort that Poppa followed his faith, and he has gone to a better place. A place with the sun shining on his back, birds singing and copious amounts of pasta and espressos. A life time would never have been enough time for Poppa. He deserved to live for eternity. It was an honour to have you as my poppa, I love you dearly.
